LA(TE)ST from Bruce Gary on ISON - "Nov 30, 15.3 UT: I'm now ready to declare that Comet ISON is "dying"! The past 4 months have been fun, sort of, but I'm looking forward to returning to a normal lifestyle. Whereas comet astronomers are embarrassed by the term "Comet of the Century," they continue to refer to it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn about comets. There will be no more updates on this web page for what I will always remember as the 'Dud of the Decade.' "

In November 2013, skywatchers around the world eagerly awaited the approach of Comet ISON. Dubbed the "Comet of the Century" by several in the media, some astronomers had predicted a stupendous cometary display as Comet ISON approached its perihelion. The comet was also the subject of countless bizarre speculations. However, despite the heightened expectations, ISON ultimately proved to be somewhat of a fizzle.

The comet has survived in some form - It strikes me that from this aspect, the gas/ion tail compared to say Comet Lovejoy appears missing, but I could be wrong - so is this really in any way intact!
Anyway, if whatever is left is observable iit should be in the evening/night sky on and after 1 Decenber 2013 as it travels away from the sun.

Curiously getting dimmer as it got closer to the sun, and being invisible to the SDO satellite, ISON was believed to have vaporized during its closest approach to the sun, but it appears to have survived, though it has certainly weakened, and nobody knows if it has broken into many different comets, if we're just seeing its last death throws, or if it will continue on as it has. It's almost certain that it won't be the Comet of the Century as it was predicted to be.

COMET ISON UPDATE: (Spaceweather.com)
Published on 16 Nov 2013:
Reports of naked-eye sightings of Comet ISON are coming in from around the world. Experienced observers put the comet's magntitude at +5.5 on Nov. 16th. This means it is now fully 10 times brighter than it was only three days ago before the outburst. To the naked eye, ISON appears as a faint smudge of pale green light low in the pre-dawn sky. The view through a telescope is more dramatic. The comet's tail has become a riotous crowd of gaseous streamers stretching more than 3.5 degrees across the sky. Amateur astronomer Waldemar Skorupa sends this picture from Kahler Asten, Germany:The tail is so long, he couldn't fit the whole thing in the field of view. How long is it? Comet ISON's tail extends more than 8 million kilometers behind the comet's nucleus. For comparison, that's 21 times the distance between Earth and the Moon. ( . . . continue reading)
Release Date: Oct 09, 2013: Scientists are unraveling more information on Comet C/2012 S1 (ISON) as it continues on its journey toward the sun.
Comet C/ISON will skim 730,000 miles above the sun’s surface on Nov. 28 and has the potential to be readily visible from Earth starting in early December.
“We measured the rotational pole of the nucleus. The pole indicates that only one side of the comet is being heated by the sun on its way in until approximately one week before it reaches it closest point to the sun,” said Planetary Science Institute Research Scientist Jian-Yang Li, who led a team that imaged the comet.
“Since the surface on the dark side of the comet should still retain a large fraction of very volatile materials, the sudden exposure to the strong sunlight when it gets closer to the sun than Mercury could trigger huge outbursts of material,” Li said.. . . .
““We measured the color of the coma, and found that the outer part of the coma is slightly redder than the inner part,” Li said. “This color change is unusual in comets, and seems to imply that the inner part contains some water ice grains, which sublimate as they move away from the nucleus.”(. . . . continue reading original article)

March 22, 2012: A recent flurry of eruptions on the sun did more than spark pretty auroras around the poles. NASA-funded researchers say the solar storms of March 8th through 10th dumped enough energy in Earth’s upper atmosphere to power every residence in New York City for two years.
“This was the biggest dose of heat we’ve received from a solar storm since 2005,” says Martin Mlynczak of NASA Langley Research Center. “It was a big event, and shows how solar activity can directly affect our planet.”
Mlynczak is the associate principal investigator for the SABER instrument onboard NASA’s TIMED satellite. SABER monitors infrared emissions from Earth’s upper atmosphere, in particular from carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitric oxide (NO), two substances that play a key role in the energy balance of air hundreds of km above our planet’s surface.
“Carbon dioxide and nitric oxide are natural thermostats,” explains James Russell of Hampton University, SABER’s principal investigator. “When the upper atmosphere (or ‘thermosphere’) heats up, these molecules try as hard as they can to shed that heat back into space.”
That’s what happened on March 8th when a coronal mass ejection (CME) (. . . . continue reading original article)

Though there is no danger it will hit Earth, he noted, it may have some effect on weather. He also addressed water issues, suggested that water melting from ice caps and glaciers could be harvested and used in areas of need.

THORnews presents, In episode 31 of Comet ISON WTF? NASA / Earth - We examine Bruce Gary's article 'Comment on "Why couldn't NASA recover Comet ISON"'? You remember Bruce Gary, he is the the Amateur Astronomer Hercules hero who recovered ISON on August 12th and has been putting out tons of data since. You might me surprised to find that he doesn't sound too happy with the state, process and protocol of Professional Astronomers. He also believes NASA has shit tons of photos in many different can read his full article here: is no single person, or group of people to be blamed here, it is the system that has evolved over time along with our cultural biases, shortcomings and egofalls. It is time for the good guy scientists to return to the scene, That is really does feel like I picked a bad time to be unhappy with modern governments output. We cannot fix the mistakes and problems until we understand what those problems and mistakes are, so the search for the truth should not this does Astronomy always have to be such an adventure? Why are governments, corporations and professional scientists so stand offish, paranoid and un-trusting of the public?Comet ISON is just a metaphor for the current state of all , Banks and governments don't seem to want to be on the public's team for some on y'all we gotta turn this tide back around to cool and bless everyone, T
